Frequently
asked
questions |
| |
| |
| |
| What
is The Prince’s Drawing School? |
|
| The
Prince’s Drawing School is an independent charity established
by the Prince of Wales in 2000. We have established The New
Fine Art Foundation Course to meet the needs of students in
the changing educational landscape. |
|
| The
School’s purpose is to facilitate and promote the practice
of drawing from observation. We believe that this is crucial
for all aspects of visual learning, thinking and practice. We
aim to fill a gap left by the steady erosion of observational
drawing from the study of art in higher education and in schools
by offering tuition and resources to art students, artists,
children and the public. |
|
| We
provide a supportive environment for a range of artistic practices
and levels of experience, centered in observational drawing.
This includes studio classes, drawing in the city and museums,
a print studio and a full lecture programme. We aim to make
tuition affordable and accessible to everyone according to their
needs and their abilities. This is ensured through provision
of a postgraduate programme, classes for the public and a network
of children’s Drawing Clubs across the city. |
|
| How
is The New Fine Art Foundation Course structured? |
|
| The
New Fine Art Foundation Course is a drawing-based, full-time
course taught over five days a week for thirty weeks from September
to June each year. The year will be divided into three terms.
The aim of the course is to provide students with a solid introduction
to drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking and photography.
It is designed to give students the independent thinking and
making skills that they will need to study at degree level or
to take their skills forward into the world of work. |
|
|
|

| Delivered
by the Prince's Drawing School each September through to June.

| All
students will be assigned a personal tutor and receive daily
contact with teaching staff. Each term, students will present
work for assessment and receive a formal tutorial to discuss
their progress. We will provide portfolio advice and guidance
to support UCAS applications as appropriate. |

|
| Who
will teach The New Fine Art Foundation Course? |
|
| The
course will be led by Gethin Evans and Sharon Beavan who ran
the highly regarded foundation programme at The Byam Shaw School
of Art for many years. Gethin and Sharon will teach alongside
other members of The Prince’s Drawing School faculty, including
Susan Wilson and Marcus Cornish. |
|
| Half
of the teaching on The New Fine Foundation Course will be delivered
by the young contemporary artists who are graduates from The
Prince’s Drawing School’s prestigious postgraduate-level Drawing
Year programme. |
|
| Where
will The New Fine Art Foundation Course be based? |
|
| The
course will be based in studios at Trinity
Buoy Wharf on the north bank of the Thames, directly
opposite the O2 Arena. This thriving community of artists and
creative businesses provides a wonderful setting for the course. |
|
| Some
of the course is also taught at a beautiful artists’ studio
in South Kensington, close to the rich and varied collections
of the V&A, Natural History and Science Museums. |
|
| At
an appropriate stage of the course, students will be provided
with their own work space in which they can develop and work
on their own projects. |
|
| What
qualification will I receive at the end of The New Fine Art
Foundation Course? |
|
| Students
will receive a certificate of achievement issued by The Prince’s
Drawing School. The course is not accredited and does not therefore
qualify for UCAS points. It is however directly relevant to
students hoping to take a degree in Fine Art or a related subject,
as well as those looking to progress directly into a wide range
of careers for which the skills learned on the course will be
very beneficial. Helpful and expert advice and guidance on progression
from The New Fine Art Foundation course is a one of the key
benefits that we offer students. |
